Upgrade Your Shopify Featured Collection Section (Better Than the Default)

A featured collection section is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate on a Shopify homepage. Done well, it pulls visitors directly into your best-selling or most strategic products the moment they land — reducing the number of clicks between arrival and add-to-cart. Most Shopify themes include a built-in version, but the default layout is deliberately minimal: a basic grid, limited styling options, and no way to differentiate your store from the thousands of others running the same theme. If your homepage feels generic, the featured collection section is usually the first place to start.

The most common fix is a page builder app, but that adds a subscription cost and often slows your store down by loading a full drag-and-drop framework for what is ultimately one section. Section Store takes a more precise approach: a custom Featured Collection Section that installs directly into your theme as a native Liquid file, integrates into the Shopify Theme Editor like any built-in section, and replaces the default layout with something properly designed — for a one-time $9, no ongoing cost. Here's how to add one to your store.

HOW TO UPGRADE YOUR SHOPIFY FEATURED COLLECTION SECTION

Follow these steps to install a custom Featured Collection Section to your Shopify store using Section Store.

01

Install the Section Store app

If you haven't already, install the Section Store app from the Shopify App Store. The app itself is free to install — you only pay for the individual Sections you want to add to your store.

02

Browse the Featured Collection Section designs

Inside the Section Store app, search for "Featured Collection" to browse the available designs. You'll find a range of layouts — from clean product grids with hover effects to carousel-style sections and editorial formats that combine collection imagery with headings and CTAs. Choose the design that fits your store's style and the type of collection you want to highlight.

03

Purchase the Section

Click through to your chosen Featured Collection Section and complete the one-time $9 purchase. This is a single charge — the Section is yours permanently, with no recurring fees, no usage limits, and no subscription required to keep using it.

04

Install the Section to your theme

Go to My Sections inside the Section Store app, then click the Install button next to your purchased Featured Collection Section. Select the theme you want to add it to. Section Store will automatically add the .liquid file directly to your theme — no code editor, no file management, no theme duplication required.

05

Open the Shopify Theme Editor

In your Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on your live theme. This opens the Theme Editor where all Section customisation takes place.

06

Navigate to your homepage

Use the page selector at the top of the Theme Editor to navigate to your homepage template. Featured collection sections are most commonly placed on the homepage, but the Section can be added to any page in your store — collection pages, landing pages, or anywhere else that benefits from showcasing a specific product range.

07

Add the Featured Collection Section to the page

Click Add Section in the left-hand sidebar and search for "ss - Featured Collection". All Section Store Sections are prefixed with "SS" in the Theme Editor — for example, "ss - Featured Collection #4" — making them easy to find alongside your theme's built-in sections. Click your chosen Section to add it to the page, then drag it into position in the sidebar if needed.

08

Select your collection and customise the layout

Click on the Section in the sidebar to open its settings. Select the collection you want to feature, then customise the heading, number of products displayed, layout format, colours, and button styles to match your brand. All changes preview live in the editor as you work — no saving required to see the result.

09

Save your theme

Click Save in the top-right corner of the Theme Editor. Your new Featured Collection Section is now live — a properly designed product showcase that replaces the default layout with something that actually reflects your brand.

WHERE TO USE YOUR FEATURED COLLECTION SECTION

The homepage is the most impactful placement — position your Featured Collection Section above the fold or immediately after your hero banner to give new visitors a direct route into your catalogue. For stores with multiple distinct product ranges, consider adding separate featured collection sections for each — bestsellers, new arrivals, and seasonal edits can each have their own dedicated module on the same page. Because the Section installs as a native Liquid file, you can also use it on collection pages to cross-promote related ranges, on landing pages to anchor paid traffic campaigns, or on your homepage multiple times for different collections without any performance overhead.
