Shopify size chart: free, one-time and app options compared
Three ways to add a Shopify size chart: Shopify's free pop-up block, a one-time size guide section, or a monthly app. Setup steps, limits and what six size chart apps cost over three years. Prices checked October 2026.
Short answer
Add a Shopify size chart free with Shopify's Pop-up block and a page metafield. For tabs or a CM and IN switch, Section Store's size guide sections cost $9 once, with no monthly fee. Size chart apps cost $108 to $360 over three years at five charts, and they add size recommenders and automatic unit conversion.
- Shopify's free Pop-up block shows a size chart page, but it needs a theme with dynamic sources.
- Section Store's Size guide and Size guide #2 cost $9 each, one time, billed through Shopify.
- Size guide #2 switches between 2 charts you write, such as CM and IN. It does not convert units.
- For 5 charts, six size chart apps cost $108 to $360 over 3 years at list prices.
- Pay monthly only for a size recommender: Kiwi from $14.99, CSC $14.99, Smart Size Chart $19.
You can add a Shopify size chart three ways: free with Shopify's pop-up block, once with a theme section, or monthly with an app. Section Store sells two size guide sections for $9 each, one time. Section Store is a Shopify app with theme sections, bundles, a cart drawer and AI Pages. We make it, and we say where others win.
How do you add a size chart to Shopify?
A Shopify size chart is a table of measurements that opens from a "Size chart" link on the product page. Shopify has no size chart setting of its own. You build one from a page and a theme block, buy a section that draws it for you, or install an app. Each route fits a different store.
- Free: Shopify's pop-up block. Put the chart on a page and link it from a Pop-up block. A page metafield gives each product its own chart.
- One time: a size guide section. A section adds the link, the pop-up, tabs or a CM and IN switch, and a picture beside the chart. You pay once.
- Monthly: a size chart app. Apps add automatic unit conversion, rules by collection, translations and a "find my size" recommender.
The three routes differ most on tabs, units and size advice. The table compares them feature by feature.
| Feature | Shopify pop-up block | Size guide sections | Size chart apps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $9 one time | Free tiers, paid plans from $2.99 a month |
| Different chart per product | Yes, with a page metafield | Yes, with separate product templates | Yes, by product, collection or tag |
| Several charts in tabs | No | Yes, Size guide | On some paid plans |
| Centimeters and inches | No switch | Switch between 2 charts you write | Automatic conversion |
| Picture beside the chart | Inside the page content | Yes, image setting | Yes, on most apps |
| Size recommender | No | No | Yes, from $14.99 a month |
| Needs dynamic sources | Yes | No | No |
The rest of this guide covers each route in order, with costs checked on October 24, 2026.
How do you add a free size chart with Shopify's pop-up block?
Shopify's free size chart uses a page reference metafield and the Pop-up block in your theme. Shopify's help center walks through it in its pop-up size chart tutorial, read on October 24, 2026. Here are its four steps in short.
- Create the metafield. Go to Settings, then Metafields and metaobjects, then Products. Click Add definition, name it "Size chart" and choose the Page type.
- Make a product template. In the theme editor, create a product template for the products that need a chart.
- Write the chart on a page. Go to Online Store, then Pages. Build the table in the rich text editor and save it.
- Connect it. Add a Pop-up block to the template and link its page to the metafield. Then pick the chart page on each product and give those products the new template.
A good size chart page lists sizes down the side and body measurements across the top. Here is a layout to copy. The numbers are placeholders, so replace them with your own garment measurements.
| Size | Chest (cm) | Waist (cm) | Hip (cm) | Length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 86 | 70 | 94 | 62 |
| M | 92 | 76 | 100 | 64 |
| L | 98 | 82 | 106 | 66 |
Write each chart once, on a Shopify page. The free Pop-up block and both Section Store size guides read the same page content. So you can start free and switch to a section later without retyping a chart.
The free route has three limits, and Shopify states two of them itself.
- Your theme must support dynamic sources. Shopify says the tutorial "requires a theme that supports dynamic sources". Vintage themes need code edits.
- Empty links still show. In Shopify's words, a product with no chart page "still displays as though there is content". You avoid that with a separate template.
- One page per pop-up. The pop-up shows one page's content. There are no tabs for tops and bottoms, and no switch between centimeters and inches.
Start here if it fits. One chart per product, a modern theme and no unit switch? The free pop-up block is enough. Pay for nothing.
What does a one-time size chart section add?
A one-time size chart section adds a styled size guide link, a pop-up with tabs or a unit switch, and a picture beside the chart. Section Store sells two. Each costs $9 once. A section is different from an app. Buying it copies its code into your theme, so it runs like a built-in section with no app server and no monthly bill. The app's purchase page says it plainly: "Buy once and keep it forever."
Size guide puts many charts in one pop-up, one tab each. See it on the Size guide demo product.
- Tabs. Add a Tab block for each chart, such as Tops, Bottoms and How to measure. Shoppers switch tabs inside the pop-up.
- Each tab takes a page, text or both. The setting "Page containing size chart" pulls in a Shopify page. "Tab Text" adds rich text below it.
- An image per tab. Add a measuring diagram or a model photo above the chart.
- Six positions. Above or below the buy buttons, the product title or the description.
Size guide #2 is built for one chart in two units. See it on the Size guide #2 demo product.
- A CM and IN switch. Add two Size Chart blocks. Each has a "Toggle text", such as CM and IN. A pill switch swaps the two charts.
- A picture beside the chart. On desktop the chart and an image sit side by side. On phones they stack.
- A heading, subheading and notes. The defaults read "Size Guide" and "Product measurements", with a text field for fit notes.
- Wide tables scroll. On a narrow phone, the chart scrolls sideways instead of squashing the columns.
- Seven positions. The six above plus "Below price", the default.
Both sections share three honest limits. The CM and IN switch shows two charts you write. It does not convert units for you. Neither section recommends a size. And each one shows the same guide on every product that uses its template.
How do you set up a size guide section?
You set up a Section Store size guide in about six steps, all in the Shopify admin and theme editor. No code is needed on themes that use standard product page markup.
- Install Section Store from the Shopify App Store. The app is free to install.
- Buy Size guide or Size guide #2 in the app. Shopify bills the one-time charge.
- Add it to your theme. Pick the theme in the app. Then open the theme editor, choose your product template and click Add section.
- Add the charts. Write each chart on a Shopify page, then pick the page in a Tab or Size Chart block. You can also type straight into the block's text field.
- Choose the position. Pick where the size guide link sits, such as below the price or above the buy buttons.
- Test on a phone. Open a product, tap the link and check every tab or unit.
Size guide #2 has a setup video on YouTube. The section places its link next to your theme's product title, price, description or buy buttons. If your theme uses different markup, the link won't appear. Then add an element with the id ss-size-guide (or ss-size-guide-2) in a Custom Liquid block, and the link goes there. Test it on your theme before launch.
Different products need different charts? Put the section on separate product templates, such as one for shirts and one for shoes. One purchase covers every template in that theme.
What do size chart apps cost over three years?
Size chart apps cost $108 to $360 over three years for a store with five charts, at list prices. The free tiers allow two or three charts, and Kiwi's free plan adds a watermark. So a store with tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and kids' sizes pays monthly. The table uses the cheapest plan that fits five charts, times 36 months, checked on each App Store listing on October 24, 2026.
| Size chart | Rating | Free plan | Plan for 5 charts | Over 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify pop-up block | Built in | Unlimited pages | $0 | $0 |
| Size guide sections | 4.9 (2,998) for Section Store | No | $9 one time | $9 |
| BF Size Chart | 4.7 (134) | 3 charts | Starter $2.99 | $107.64 |
| ILM Size Chart | 4.9 (47) | 2 charts | Premium $4.99 | $179.64 |
| CSC Size Chart | 5.0 (100) | 2 charts | Grow $6.99 | $251.64 |
| Kiwi Size Chart | 4.7 (1,243) | 3 charts, watermark | Premium $7.99 | $287.64 |
| Smart Size Chart | 4.9 (150) | 2 charts | Starter $9 | $324 |
| Sized Size Charts | 4.0 (8) | 2 charts | Growth $9.99 | $359.64 |
Size chart apps are cheap, so the gap is small. BF Size Chart costs $2.99 a month and already converts centimeters to inches. Annual plans cut the bill further. ILM Size Chart is $49.99 a year, or about $150 over three years. The 3-year figures above leave annual savings out.
The app bill grows when you want a size recommender. CSC Size Chart charges $14.99 a month for 500 AI size recommendations. Smart Size Chart charges $19 a month for its fit quiz. A section never adds a monthly line.
What does Kiwi Size Chart cost?
Kiwi Size Chart & Recommender has a free plan and three paid plans from $7.99 to $26.99 a month. It is the most-reviewed size chart app here, rated 4.7 from 1,243 reviews on its App Store listing on October 24, 2026.
| Plan | Price | Size charts | Size recommenders | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 3 | No | Kiwi watermark included |
| Premium | $7.99 a month | Up to 10 | No | No watermark, 14-day trial |
| Plus | $14.99 a month | Up to 20 | Up to 10 | Extra charges by order volume |
| Ultimate | $26.99 a month | Unlimited | Unlimited | Extra charges by order volume, 22 languages |
Kiwi is worth its fee when you use the recommender. Shoppers enter their measurements and get a size. That can cut returns in a way a static chart can't. If you only need the chart, the free pop-up block or a $9 section does the same job without the watermark or the monthly fee.
When is a size chart app the better choice?
A size chart app is the better choice when you need the chart to think, not just show. These are the cases where we'd pick one over a section:
- A size recommender. Kiwi, CSC and Smart Size Chart suggest a size from the shopper's answers. Sections don't.
- Automatic unit conversion. Apps such as BF Size Chart and Smart Size Chart convert one chart between centimeters and inches. Size guide #2 needs both charts written by you.
- Rules by collection or tag. Apps attach a chart to every product in a collection. A section follows its product template.
- Many languages. Kiwi, Smart Size Chart and ILM translate charts. A section shows the text you type.
- Charts by country. CSC can show a different chart by shopper country.
The free Shopify route stays the best choice for one chart per product on a modern theme. The section is for the middle: a polished pop-up with tabs, two units or a fit picture, paid once.
Which size chart option fits your store?
The right size chart option depends on how many charts you have and whether shoppers need help picking a size.
One chart per product, modern theme
Shopify pop-up block
Free. A page metafield gives each product its own chart.
Tabs for many charts, paid once
Size guide
$9 one time. Tops, bottoms and a measuring guide in one pop-up.
CM and inches with a fit picture
Size guide #2
$9 one time. A unit switch and an image beside the chart.
A "find my size" recommender
Kiwi Size Chart
Recommenders from $14.99 a month. 1,243 reviews at 4.7.
A size chart is one of several product page blocks that answer a shopper's question before they ask. See our guides to Shopify color swatches and estimated delivery dates, or the full Shopify product page customization guide.
Use Shopify's free pop-up block if one chart per product is enough. Pay $9 once for a size guide section when you want tabs or a CM and IN switch. Pay monthly only for a size recommender.
How we compared
We read the Size guide and Size guide #2 code on October 24, 2026, and describe only what it does. Rival plans and ratings come from each Shopify App Store listing that day. The 3-year figures are list price times 36 for a store with five charts, without annual-plan savings. Shopify's free route comes from help.shopify.com. We make Section Store, rated 4.9 from 2,900+ reviews.
More one-time sections: the bundle builder with no monthly fee and trust badges without a subscription. For layout ideas, read our product page template guide or theme section apps compared.
Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify have a built-in size chart?
No. Shopify has no size chart setting, but its free Pop-up block can show one. You write the chart on a page, create a Page metafield and link it from the block. Each product then picks its own chart page. Your theme must support dynamic sources, which most Online Store 2.0 themes do.
How do I add a size chart to Shopify without an app?
Use Shopify's Pop-up block with a page, which costs nothing. Or buy a size guide section once, such as Section Store's Size guide for $9. A section is code in your theme, not an app, so nothing bills monthly. It adds tabs or a CM and IN switch that the free block lacks.
How do I show a different size chart for each product?
With Shopify's free route, create a Page metafield and pick a chart page on each product. With a Section Store size guide, put the section on separate product templates, such as one for shirts and one for shoes. Apps such as ILM Size Chart assign charts by rule instead.
Can a Shopify size chart switch between centimeters and inches?
Yes, with a section or an app. Size guide #2 shows a pill switch between two charts you write, labelled CM and IN by default. Apps such as BF Size Chart and Smart Size Chart convert one chart for you. Shopify's free Pop-up block shows one page, so it has no switch.
What is the best size chart app for Shopify?
Kiwi Size Chart & Recommender is the most-reviewed, at 4.7 from 1,243 reviews on October 24, 2026. It suits stores that want a size recommender. For a plain chart, BF Size Chart is the cheapest paid app at $2.99 a month. A one-time section costs $9 with nothing after.
Is there a free alternative to Kiwi Size Chart?
Yes. Shopify's own Pop-up block shows a size chart page for free, with no watermark. BF Size Chart's free plan covers 3 charts with cm and inch conversion. For tabs or a unit switch without a monthly fee, Section Store's size guide sections cost $9 once. None of these recommend a size the way Kiwi Plus does.
What happens to my size guide section if I change themes?
You keep it. Open Section Store and add your purchased section to the new theme. Buying it again is never needed. The section's settings live in the old theme, so you pick your chart pages and position again. Charts written on Shopify pages stay in place for any theme.
Do I need Section Store Plus for a size guide section?
No. Size guide and Size guide #2 are one-time purchases and work without any Section Store subscription. Section Store Plus at $15 a month is a separate plan for bundles, quantity breaks, the cart drawer and AI Pages. You can use either one, or both, in the same store.
